The Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals take the field in DC for game five of their series in Thursday MLB.
The Washington Nationals forced a deciding game five in their NLDS with a 5-0 victory at the Chicago Cubs behind outstanding work on the mound and some late offense. This was all about Washington starter Stephen Strasburg who allowed three hits and a pair of walks while striking out 12 over seven frames to get the win.

The Nationals totaled five hits and walked nine times with Michael Taylor clubbing a grand slam in the 8th that broke open a 1-0 contest. With the big lead the Nats wrapped the game up with Ryan Madson and Sean Doolittle tossing an inning apiece. Washington has not named a starter with Tuesday’s rain out and the extra day of rest I would expect everybody would be available with the entire season riding on one game. Left hander Gio Gonzalez has been tabbed as the starter and is 15-9 with a 3.01 ERA
The Chicago Cubs saw their chance at advancing to the NLCS go by the wayside as their defense, bullpen and offense all had problems. Now Chicago must win at the Washington Nationals on Thursday to have the opportunity of advancing to a second straight NLCS. Cubs starter Jake Arrieta allowed an unearned run on two hits and five walks through four innings to get the loss.
Jon Lester Wade Davis and Carl Edwards Jr. were charged with all four runs when Davis surrendered the grand slam. The Chicago attack consisted of three hits and three bases on balls with Jason Heyward reaching base twice on a single and walk. The Cubs will also have all arms available so whoever is on the mound will be gone at the first sign of trouble. Kyle Hendricks has been confirmed as the starter and is 8-5 with a 2.88 ERA.
Chicago are 16-5 in their last 21 games on grass and Chicago are 10-4 in their last 14 road games and Chicago are 35-15 in their last 51 Thursday games. Washington are 7-2 in their last 9 Thursday games and Washington are 2-6 in their last 8 playoff home games and under is 32-14-7 in Washington last 53 overall.
I simply believe the Nationals are the better team and will find some way to get the job done..
